With a little preparation, you can gift a new mom something precious.

Gift being opened by a baby and mom

It can be difficult deciding on a gift for a new mom on mother’s day as some moms seem to have it all, already.

But I’m going to let you in on a little secret: New moms need reassurance above all else.

They are vulnerable, self-conscious about themselves and their actions, and they are second-guessing every move they make.

I know. I’ve been there. (Sometimes I still am there!)

So when you gift a new mom with something that will make her feel seen, appreciated, and loved, you will make her walk on clouds for a long, long time.

And when someone you care about is going through a difficult time — which most new moms are — why wouldn’t you want to make her feel good about herself?

So here are some ideas of what you can gift a new mom, but use it as inspiration and put your own unique angle on it.

New moms are tired and they don’t have the energy to make themselves look pretty.

But, at the same time, they desperately want photos with their baby.

Everyone — new moms included — take hundreds of photos of the baby but it’s so easy to forget the mom and her desire to also be in a photo or two.

It’s easy to say she shouldn’t worry about her appearance, but, the reality is, a new mom will worry about her appearance. And she’s so vulnerable and self-conscious she might not even realise she’s excluding herself from precious memories she will one day long for.

So, whether you do a paid photoshoot or DIY it, give the new mom some time to shower, get dressed (not in PJs!) and put on a little makeup. This might mean you have to babysit a bit. Then take some photos of her and her baby.

She will cherish those photos forever.

Mommy And Me Outfits

Babies are expensive because there are so many things you need to provide. So, chances are, new moms will not have spent money on cute outfits for the baby, even though they desperately want to.

So get cute matching outfits or an outfit for the baby with a slogan about their mom.

And make some effort if the baby is a boy — it’s a little more difficult to get cute outfits, especially mommy and me outfits, but they do exist. And when you find some, you will earn extra brownie points from the mom.

Personalised Card “From The Baby”

New moms often second guess whether they are doing the right thing. It can also feel like a lot of what they do goes unseen, and it adds to the feeling of overwhelm and unhappiness some new moms experience.

So make her feel like she is a good mom (because she is!). One way to do this is by giving her a card “from the baby”. This card should list all the things she does and thank her for it.

And spend time to note down all the things she does. This idea will fall flat if all you put on the list is:

  • Feed the baby
  • Wake up at night to look after the baby
  • Change diapers

I promise you. There are a million and one things the mom does over and above these:

  • Makes sure there are clean clothes for the baby
  • Makes sure there are enough clothes for the baby (they grow so quickly!)
  • Make sure there are enough diapers
  • Replaces toiletries, cleans the room, comforts when the baby is sick
  • Makes meals
  • Gives up showers and eating to look after the baby
  • Tidies constantly, even though it might not look like it
  • Worries, all the time, about the well-being of her baby
  • She puts her own needs and wants second to that of the baby
  • …and so on

When you make an effort to notice all the little things she does and then put it down on paper with a big THANK YOU, she will feel super appreciated. And validated. There is no better gift you can give a new mom than to boost her self-worth.

Final Thoughts

When you apply the above principles, there are endless variations of gifts you can give a new mom on mother’s day. Or any other day, for that matter.

Ensure the girt makes her feel good about herself, validates her and boosts her self-confidence.

As easy as that!
